Back in CT it seems as though the weather was always on people's minds: "Nice day today." "Hot out there." "GUARANTEED FORECAST!" "Will you need your umbrella? Tune in for weather every five minutes in the morning!" The Hartford Courant splashes a multi-color map of the entire US with circles and arrows on the second page so as to be easily spotted, with a box on the front page giving a terse synopsis of the now-six-hour-old forecast: Partly Cloudy, High 73. TV and radio announcers bleat about it with the urgency of used-car salesmen.
Here, the weather just is. It's warm, yes. And humid. And thunderstorms pop up every now and then. (And at least right now it's a lot more bearable than it is on the East Coast where they're in the midst of a HEAT WAVE!!!!!!) But few people seem to talk about it. Updates on the radio don't seem to be as frequent. And the Post-Dispatch buries it in the middle of a section and prints it in soothing black and white. We don't have a TV out here yet so we haven't watched the local news, but we're willing to bet some lady in Fenton isn't going to win $30 if Jim-the-Weatherman doesn't come within 3 degrees of the today's high temperature.
The result for us is we just go with the flow. Which is kinda nice.
