Yankee truism ... in Missouri

"Well you know what they say about Missouri weather. If you don't like it, just wait a minute."

We've heard that a number of times since our arrival.

It's worth noting a couple of things ...

1) Though Mark Twain was actually speaking specifically of New England weather when he advised waiting "a few minutes," he did spend the first 18 years of his life in Missouri, having been born in Florida (MO) before moving to Hannibal at age 4.

2) The weather here does change rapidly and often at times (other than the summer when it was just plain hot and humid, night and day). Winds whip up and die down at a moment's notice. The sun appears and disappears with frequency. Temperatures have been fluctuating widely over the course of a day. And then there are the storms. The ones that create a cacophony of warning sirens from every direction. These last a brief while before fading back into glorious silence.

 Are we supposed to head for the basement or something?
